Which one to choose
Start with where your customers are
The best messenger is the one your customers already open fifty times a day. In Uzbekistan and Russia most business chats happen in Telegram; in Spain, Germany, Italy, Brazil or India people expect WhatsApp. Look at your last hundred customer conversations: wherever most of them happened is where the bot should live.
What each costs to run
Telegram charges nothing: you pay only for the server, usually $5–10 a month. WhatsApp adds Meta's charges for template messages your business starts — reminders, order updates, promotions — at rates that depend on the customer's country. Replies inside the 24-hour window after a customer's message are free. The details are in WhatsApp Business API pricing, and build prices in how much a WhatsApp bot costs.
What each can do
Telegram gives bots more freedom: inline keyboards that update in place, payments, bots in groups, and Mini Apps — full web interfaces inside the chat. WhatsApp is stricter but familiar to everyone: reply buttons, lists, product catalogs and forms, with proactive messages only through templates that Meta approves. For a simple order or booking flow both are more than enough.
Can I have both?
Yes. The bot's logic is written once and connected to both messengers, with one database and one admin panel. Customers choose the app they prefer, and your team sees every order in one place. The “Bot + admin panel” package includes Telegram and WhatsApp.
Typical choices
- A café in Tashkent taking delivery orders — Telegram: customers are there, and running costs are just the server.
- A dental clinic in Spain sending appointment reminders — WhatsApp: patients expect it, and reminders reduce no-shows.
- An online shop selling in both regions — one bot connected to both messengers.
- A tool for your own staff — Telegram, because it is free and supports Mini Apps.
Questions
Is the WhatsApp Business app enough?
For a few chats a day, yes — it has greetings, away messages and quick replies. A real bot needs the WhatsApp Business Platform (API), which is what I connect.
Is a Telegram bot cheaper than a WhatsApp bot?
Building costs about the same. Running a Telegram bot is cheaper because Telegram has no per-message charges.
Can one bot work in Telegram and WhatsApp?
Yes — one logic, one database and one admin panel, connected to both messengers.
Which is better for customer support?
The one your customers already use: usually WhatsApp in Western Europe and Latin America, Telegram in Uzbekistan and Russia.
Can I keep my current WhatsApp number?
Usually yes. Depending on how the number is used today, it is moved to the platform or connected alongside the WhatsApp Business app — I check before we start.
